Report Animal Abuse
Every person who maliciously and intentionally maims, mutilates, tortures, or wounds a living animal, or maliciously and intentionally kills an animal, is guilty of an offense punishable by imprisonment in the state prison, by a fine, or potentially by both. Every person who overloads, overworks, torments, deprives of necessary sustenance, drink, or shelter, cruelly beats or subjects any animal to needless suffering is guilty of a crime punishable as a felony (CPC 597).
How to Report Animal Abuse
If you would like to discuss or report animal abuse, please call Animal Care Services at (714) 935-6848.
You may file an anonymous report; however, any personal information shared will be kept confidential.
What to do when you find a lost pet
Check if the pet is wearing a collar and has a tag or a license. Take the pet to a shelter (care center) or veterinarian to scan for microchip identification. Make a flyer and keep the flyer simple and to the point. List the major cross streets where the pet was found since people are more likely to know where those are. A description of the pet – Breed, color, size, and any unique characteristics, License number, microchip number, and a description of their collar (if applicable) and a clear picture of the pet. Post the flyer, pictures of the pet, and the location you found it on Craigslist, Pawboost.com, Petharbor.com and social media sites like Facebook and Nextdoor.
